Quiet

View from my porch yesterday, May 15, 2015

There is a quiet up here after it snows.  Interrupted only by the occasional squabble of the birds at the feeder, a scolding from the squirrel  My knitting needles clicking.  The fire crackling.  The slide of snow off the roof.

The footprints in the snow are mine, coming and going to bring in wood or feed the birds. The other prints are from the other creatures that belong here.

This is what sobriety looks like to me.  Quiet. Unsullied by unnecessary trodding and stomping around.  Unbroken by relentless unnecessary babble.

Only me and the creatures that belong here.

    1. I talk to myself enough, it's nice to have at least one conversation off the table.

  3. This is stunning.

But holy mother of God...that much snow? In May?

    Bless you -

    1. I know! If I had to put up with this all winter, I'd probably think the Donner Party was lucky and I'd start fattening the cap'n up. lol

  4. That much snow in May?! I can only guess where you are... But it truly doesn't matter. What matters is that hopefully one day I will be able to feel as content and peaceful in my sobriety as you do. I just need to be patient.

  5. High country of Colorado. Yes, you need to b patient. I don't know how long you have been sober, but from the blogs I read and my own experience a turning point seems to happen at 6 months. At that point the urges and all that missing it seems to diminish. You'll get there. Are you involved with any online message boards? Those, along with the blogs were life savers for me. You can check out the Women For Sobriety board, it is very active or mmabsers whics is smaller but a little less rigid. They kind of let you plot your own course, that's the one I am most involved with. At this time, you need all the help you can get. And if you're like me and don't want to go the face-to-face meeting route, I highly recommend the online boards. Oh yeah, there's also SMART recovery although I'm not familiar with that.
